Excel 2016 from Scratch Exercise
Visualization N, Data Validation, Pivot Table and Chart
An Excel tutorial by Peter Kalmstrom
In
this demo in the Excel 2016 from Scratch series, Peter Kalmstrom
creates a pivot table view and a chart that show revenues
for the four seasons.
For this to work, only the names of the seasons must be
entered in the Season column. They have to be spelled correctly,
and no alternative expressions must be used.
Therefore Peter takes advantage of the Excel data validation
tool. It creates a dropdown with the approved values, so
that users can select them. No other values can be entered.
Exercise
If you want to try the exercise yourself, please
download the Excel file Peter uses in the demo.
Content
This is what Peter shows in the demo below:

- How to create a pivot table to summarize data.
- How to create a view in a pivot table.
- How to insert a chart that visualizes the pivot

Peter uses Excel 2016 for his demo, but the Excel visualization
tools are the same for later versions of Excel.
