Recurring Tasks Solution for SharePoint and Mobile
The kalmstrom.com Tips section has several articles about
how recurring tasks can be managed, and these tips work
well when there are just a few tasks or a few groups that
handle them. If a company or an organization has many recurring
tasks, it is better to use a custom solution and the kalmstrom.com
team has built several of these.
The solution described in the demo below, was built for
Catholic Cemeteries & Crematoria. This organization
manages nearly 3000 recurring tasks per month, and they
needed a Maintenance Manager solution that was quick and
mobile friendly.
kalmstrom.com built the solution on SharePoint and TypeScript,
which is a syntactic superset of JavaScript that makes it
possible to create SharePoint pages with user intefaces
that adapt well to different screen sizes. These pages can
be made very fast. Here, data is saved in an SQL database,
which also adds to the speed of the solution.
A SharePoint Sections list is used for the different
sections, the tasks that should be performed in each section
and the schedule and responsible for each task.
This recurring tasks solution has several benefits:
- In the Maintenance Manager start page in SharePoint,
users can reach all tasks or their own tasks.

- Management is also reached from the start page and
can be handled in a familiar environment.
- Tasks can be filtered very quickly.
- Each task can be opened and managed in different
ways.

- The solution works well on mobile phones and tablets,
so tasks can be managed out of office.
- Photos can be uploaded in the task details page.
- A map feature shows an image of the location where
the recurring task should be performed.
- The Statistics is built on Power BI and Excel.
- People responsible for each tasks can be changed
by managers in the Sections list or by users
in each task details page.
- As the recurring tasks solution builds on SharePoint,
no separate login is needed.
