Four Ways To Copy In Excel

An Excel tutorial by Peter Kalmstrom

Excel iconThe most obvious way to copy cell content in Excel is probably to use the copy and paste buttons.

In the demo below Peter Kalmstrom shows three other ways that are often quicker and more convenient.

The four copy methods are:
  • Banner buttons
  • Right click
  • Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V
  • Ctrl + drag and drop
The copy methods Peter shows are all good for text and numbers. The text or numbers will be exactly the same when you paste them.

However, if you copy a cell that contains a formula and paste it in another cell, the formula will adapt to that row and column. This is very useful, but you should be aware of that Excel does this. Then you can take advantage of it. Excel icon For more information about how that works, please refer to the Tips article about home costs calculations.

Peter uses Excel 2013 for his demo, but the four copy methods will work for earlier versions of Excel too.
