Client-side Web Part in Kanban Task Manager for SharePoint V9
Borgholm, Sweden, 4 May 2020
kalmstrom.com Business Solutions is happy to announce the
release of Kanban Task Manager
for SharePoint V9. The new version comes in three
editions: client-side web part, sandboxed solution and add-in/app.
In the last few months, Kanban Task Manager has undergone
an extensive re-build, so now kalmstrom.com can support
Microsoft's three major ways to build tools for SharePoint.
"We have done major improvement and changes to Kanban
Task Manager, in order to improve speed, stability and
also our ability to maintain the product for the future"',
says Peter Kalmström, kalmstrom.com CEO and Systems Designer.
SharePoint is a complex environment. There are now
three major ways to build tools for SharePoint. We have
the classic sandboxed solution with .wsp packages, the add-in
.app packages and the new SPFX technique for client-side
web parts, with .sppkg packages.
These tools all have their different toolsets, Microsoft
recommended techniques and gotchas, but the kalmstrom.com
team has managed to work around all that and created one
common build for three Kanban Task Manager editions.
All three editions have the same version number, and they
support the same features. This makes Kanban Task Manager
both backwards compatible and future-proof. It will now
be much easier for kalmstrom.com to maintain and improve
the massive Kanban Task Manager code-base.
The kalmstrom.com team has used a new programming language
for the Enterprise". The work has been difficult and very
time-consuming, but once it has been done, the rewards will
make it worth the efforts.
REST API calls
Another important development is the move away from using
all libraries for doing calls to SharePoint. Instead
Kanban Task Manager is are now using direct REST API
calls for everything that needs to be done with SharePoint.
That makes the code performance much better.
Furthermore kalmstrom.com has changed their use of third
party libraries. They have now partnered with
a company that provides a range of feature-rich controls
which are used to provide a grid data entry, graphs and
Add to Teams
The new client-side web part will support not only SharePoint
modern pages but also Microsoft Teams (as long as the team
has a SharePoint site behind it of course). That means that
you can work with tasks that are relevant for a team within
a tab of a Teams-chat or channel.
7 Habits view
In addition to the kanban board, Kanban Task Manager
has several other views that let users visualize and
work with the tasks in different ways. One of the views
is the 7 Habits view, where all open tasks are divided into
four quadrants according to the
"Urgent-Important" Matrix. The name of this view comes
from the renowned book "7
Habits of Highly Effective People"
by Stephen Covey.
The kalmstrom.com developers have use the Priority value
as the importance parameter and the Due date as the urgency
parameter, and these parameter are changed automatically
when tasks are moved between the quadrants. The tasks in
the upper left quadrant has high priority and are due today.
The new Kanban Task Manager gives a possibility to
let the product calculate how many hours a task has been
open. This information can be seen in the task and in the
Excel reports generated by Kanban Task Manager. Only
the organization's work hours are included in the calculation.
kalmstrom.com Business Solutions offers a trial period of
30 days for both SharePoint editions of Kanban Task Manager.
There is a possibility to create Example data, so the evaluation
can be quick and smooth.
During the evaluation the kalmstrom.com team offers full
support, just as support and upgrades are included for organizations
that subscribe to Kanban Task Manager.
