Try Templates Manager for SharePoint

Templates Manager iconYou are welcome to download and try Templates Manager for 30 days without any obligations. Then your organization must subscribe to Templates Manager if you want to continue using the solution.

Templates Manager is a Sandboxed Solution that should be uploaded to a SharePoint solutions gallery and activated there and on each site in the collection where it should be used.

When Templates Manager has been uploaded and activated for the site collection, there are two possible features to activate on site level: Templates Manager Publisher and Templates Manager User. This is because Templates Manager has two user roles, Publisher and User.
  • Publishers are administrators who upload, manage and publish the Office templates with the Templates Manager Publisher features.

  • Users are all who create documents in the SharePoint libraries on sites where Template Manager User has been activated..

Installation in site collection

  1. Download the file TemplatesManagerSP.zip to your computer and extract it.
  2. On the root site of the site collection, open the Site Settings and select Solutions under the Web Designer Galleries heading.
  3. Upload the Templates Manager .wsp file.
  4. Activate the .wsp file.

Activation on site

To activate Templates Manager for a site, open Site Actions >Manage site features and activate one or two Templates Manager features.
  1. On sites where templates should be managed, find Templates Manager Publisher in the list of site features and activate it. A new library, TMTemplates, will now be created on the site.

f you want to distribute different templates to different sites you can activate Templates Manager Publisher on several sites. If all users should have access to all templates, Templates Manager Publisher should only be activated for one site.

  2. On sites where templates should be used in document libraries but not managed, find Templates Manager User in the list of site features and activate it.

Templates Manager User must be activated on each site where templates should be used in the document libraries.

Publisher Get Started page

On the site where Templates Manager Publisher has been activated, you will find a new "Templates Manager" link in the Site settings.
Templates Manager link
The first time you click on the Site settings link, a Templates Manager link will be created in the Quick Launch and a Get Started page will open. Here you can either load example data or directly enter your own template categories in the settings and start uploading files to the TMTemplates library.

User templates library selection

When Templates Manager User has been activated for a site, the TMTemplates library to use must be selected in one of the libraries:

Open a library and click on New to create a new document. Now you will be asked to select templates library. This only happens the first time, and the selection will be valid for all libraries on that site.

You might need to allow pop-ups for the download to work.
