HelpDesk for Outlook and SharePoint converts e-mails to SharePoint list items          

HelpDesk OSP V2.1 supports Forms Authentication


kalmstrom.com Business Solutions has released an update of the add-in that connects Microsoft Outlook to SharePoint or Office Live. Version 2.1 of HelpDesk OSP support Forms Authentication, a common method for authenticating users in online applications. The new HelpDesk OSP also has full support for Unicode, so any characters may be used.

HelpDesk OSP converts e-mails to list items in a SharePoint or Office Live site, with formatting, attachments and embedded images intact. Users may also create a new ticket which picks the caller details from the Outlook Contacts or the Global Address List. Any SharePoint list may be used, and it may be customized just like all other SharePoint lists. Different e-mails can also be directed to different lists. Therefore HelpDesk OSP is a very versatile tool for issue tracking and user support.  

HelpDesk OSP can be used with Outlook Web Access, which is especially useful for a team that is distributed to different places or when members work away from office. When the e-mail threading is enabled, all e-mails concerning the same case are added to the first ticket, where they are saved chronologically and easily can be reviewed and commented on by all staff.

The application can be left running on a server, where it converts e-mails to tickets automatically around the clock. A Settings form in Outlook handles the connection between Outlook and SharePoint/Office Live, and the admin configures it for all subsequent users. The login details to the SharePoint site can be saved, and the password is encrypted for best security.

When HelpDesk OSP has been used for a while performance can be studied in the powerful integrated statistics tool, OLAP Reporting Tool. That way the application also facilitates business intelligence.
