Future development of TimeCard

TimeCard icon These are some enhancements we wish to give TimeCard. The priorities are fluent, but if you like a feature and wish to make it reality soon, you are very welcome to sponsor it.

Some of these improvements require a long development process, and we might very well take them in several steps.

  TimeCard for iPhone:

As a first step in the development of "TimeCard Mobiles" for smart phones, we are developing an app that makes it possible to add and edit appointments with TimeCard properties in iPhone.

New Design. Three kalmstrom.com specialists, QA, Lead Developer and Graphic Designer, are analyzing TimeCard to make it more user friendly. This is a suggestion we like for the first Common Settings screen in the Workgroup version, but the final decision is not made yet.

Addition of the new Microsoft Service SQL Azure as a third database choice after Access and SQL Server. SQL Azure it is basically a SQL Server that Microsoft runs for you "in the cloud". This alternative will be especially good for distributed teams, as it can be used instead of the "Report to ASP" solution.

We are also looking into the possibility of making data storage for our applications part of the Premium Membership package. That way Premium Members would not have to think about additional costs for setting up an SQL Azure account for the company. It would be included in the kalmstrom.com Community subscription fee.

A "TimeCard Mobile" that could be used with OWA and smart phones like Blackberry, Windows Mobile 7 and Iphone.

There is support for SOAP APIs in Exchange 2010, so it should be possible to create an asp.net page that allows the user to log in with his OWA credentials. Then we display information from his calendar with the ability to add TimeCard properties to the selected appointment within a date range.

No synchronizing is needed ‒ data is only stored on the Exchange server, in the calendar. In the first step reporting has to be done from the desktop, like with TimeCard Mobile. Later we would like to provide a web-based reporting module also.

The interface should be minimalistic like the UI in TimeCard Mobile. The asp.net page could be hosted by us or the Member company. If hosted by us it needs to remember which OWA site to log into for each customer, if hosted by the Member, we can give the OWA site information as part of the configuration/installation.

The TimeCard Common Settings window should remember the last user's choice regarding the Advanced part of the dialog.

Addition to the TimeCard E-mail/Domain Settings: a flag will be assigned once an e-mail message has been dragged to the calendar.

Option to use of SharePoint instead of a file server for the Workgroup version of TimeCard.

New installer built on Visual Basic, like the one we already have for PF HelpDesk and Calendar Browser. The current Install Shield installer does not give the possibility to make multiple installations of central (network) locations.

Automatic client registration for the Workgroup version. Now TimeCard automatically detects the license key in the central installation and gives the client the option to load it.

Support for 64-bit Office 2010. The 32-bit Office works well with the 64-bit Windows versions, and as the current version of TimeCard supports Office 2010 32-bit, as well as the 64-bit Windows versions, that is sufficient for most users. However, for those who need it we also like to support the 64-bit version. FAQ

Make TimeCard more "intelligent", so that it can show only valid alternatives in the meta data dropdowns. A customer question can illustrate this feature best:
"I need to track Project, Task and Customer. Project will be a unique code, but there can be the same customer to multiple projects. Tasks are specific to a project and change from project to project. Ideally when I pick a Customer, I can then pick from just "their" Projects and then only the Tasks available to that Project."

This is a good feature that unfortunately requires much development time.

Welcome with your own suggestions on how to improve TimeCard! We are grateful if you use the support e-mail for this, and the more you can describe how you want it to work, the better. You can leave technical solution to us, just tell us how you want to use your new feature.
