Q.
All of a sudden  all users experience a permission error when using Calendar Browser. The layout of the homepage itself is distorted with no resources listed in the list box. I have checked the permissions and they are correctly set. How do I fix this?

A.
Most likely, there is a conflict in the Settings item of Calendar Browser where all the configuration data are stored. To fix it, disable the homepage, and see if any of the post items in that Calendar Browser folder has a unusual hazard icon. Open it, and you will be asked to choose a particular version of the item to be retained. Resolve the conflict by selecting a particular version of the settings item.

Explanation:
This happens when two or more users open the same item. If user 1 saves it, and later user 2 saves it. When user 2 saves it, Exchange is trying to save to the version of the item that was opened prior to user 1 saving the item, so a conflict occurs.

Under this scenario, Exchange makes this item unavailable. Such an item has a special icon (conflict/hazard icon)I the user opens that item it would allow him to retain the particular version of the item that was saved.
Once it is resolved, the item can be used again

Calendar Browser saves the settings in a post item, so the application is prone to this conflict. If two administrators are running the Calendar Browser Admin Tool and one them updates the settings and closes the Calendar Browser Admin Tool, these changes are not reflected to the copy of the Calendar Browser Admin Tool being run by the other user. So if this other user change something to the Calendar Browser Admin Tool, it is saving to the original version of the post item and hence, the conflict
