Permissions
The upgrade must be performed by a
person who has Write permission over the server folder and Owner permission over the
Outlook public folder/mailbox.
Included in the download is an MSI package, FHDCT.msi, that you are welcome to use for the client upgrade if you have many users.
Note: No one should use Folder HelpDesk when it is being upgraded.
It might me necessary to allow pop-ups in your browser for the download to work.
Save the installation file FolderHelpDeskSetup.exe
to your computer and then to the Folder HelpDesk root file
folder on your server.
From a client, run the newly downloaded Setup
file and in the installation type dialog, select
'Upgrade/Repair existing Folder HelpDesk' and click
Next.
Specify the Outlook folder of your
existing Folder HelpDesk installation.
(Upgrade the Folder HelpDesk Client Tools. )
If the client tools have been updated, they will be upgraded silently on the
machine used for the upgrade. Other clients will be prompted to upgrade them the next time
Folder HelpDesk is started. Click Yes, and the upgrade is automatic.
(If you have multiple installations, repeat the process for
each Outlook folder.)
Upgrade from version 11
When you upgrade from version 11 Folder HelpDesk you need a new registration key. Please contact
sales@kalmstrom.com if your registration key does not begin with FHD12.
As the client tool has a totally new build, please uninstall the old client tool manually via the Control panel
‒ Add/remove programs (Win XP and below) or Programs and Features (Vista and later)
‒ before you start the upgrade to version 12.
Each client should also uninstall the old client tool. To get the new tool they must then, from the client machine, go into the Folder HelpDesk server folder and run the file FolderHelpDeskClientTool.exe.
This process may also be done using Group Policy in Active Directory and the file FHDCT.msi, which is supplied in the download and can be found in the Folder HelpDesk server folder.
It might me necessary to allow pop-ups in your browser for the download to work.
It was the smoothest upgrade I ever experienced from any software. Ran the install and 5 minutes later we were back up and running.
